Please please please

There is going to be a World Capital Markets Symposium this coming 10-11 August.

First time I saw it was in the newspapers and below is the list of the key note speakers:

I got pretty excited coz I just bought a Paul Krugman book and I've come across his name so many times in the newspapers...so you can only imagine how exciting it'll be to be able to meet the man in person! But I am also quite curious of Dr. Laura D'Andrea Tyson (economic adviser to Barack Obama and Bill Clinton) and Dr. Mark Mobius (considered to be one of the global leaders in the emerging market industry)...and I'm sure it goes without saying that all the others would be pretty damn amazing too. (You can click on the image if you want a more detailed description on the other speakers)

But then what a bummer coz it says:
Pssccht...that completely EXCLUDES me!

BUT today I just spoke to a friend and found out that she has a role in all of this. And so here is where the blog title comes to play....To that friend (her name shan't be stated just in case there are any other enthusiast out there who would ruin my chance at getting it), I'm blogging to show you how serious I am about it...(heheh maybe you didnt even need the convincing) ... I know its very highly unlikely to get one but please please please try and get an invitation =) =)
Heh Love you long time with or without the invitation xx

Age, relatively

"The oldest rocks which have been found so far on Earth date to about 3.8 to 3.9 billion years ago" (Source). So I take it that the Earth must at least be 3.8 billion years old.

Thats all some fancy schmancy number unimaginable to us. But when you put a lil maths twist to it, the number becomes rather extraordinary. I wont bore you. I swear! Its only simple maths.

"DNA and fossil evidence indicates that modern humans originated in east Africa about 200,000 years ago" (Source).

Sooo if you put it together.....us modern humans have ONLY lived about 1/10,000 or 0.0001 of Earth's life. Thats like saying for the time of Earth's life, there could have be 1 x 10,000 of what we know of human history so far. TEN THOUSAND times of our whole human history!

2 things come to mind
1) We've got a long long way to go because our existence has been relatively short; or
2) Us humans are plain ol insignificant

And you know what else is fascinating? That the earliest fossil suggesting animals walked on legs date back to 570 million years ago (Source). We're a relatively new species.

And to think that we're so proud.
You know whats playing in my head right now...thoughts of high school and thoughts of seniors thinking pfft these juniors know nothing of whats install for them. Like 'yea thats right...you think you got life figured out? wait a couple hundred thousand years'

Wham Bam

Salary comes in end of the month -> You net off with the expenses of the month -> You feel happy, 'oh wow I can save'...'oh wow at this rate I can travel here here here'....'oh wow i can put in a fixed deposit and get a loan of this much this much this much'....................................

BUT THEN, wham bam you get served with your credit card bill. Oh the agony...The pain...The shocking horror! Aduii it hurts paying for your own bill (Kinda like obvious right? But wait till you get your first bill...then you'll know!).

A rich cousin once said, 'Success is when you are richer working than when you were studying'. Haih.

And in my 'defense', Aristotle Onassis once said, "If women didn’t exist, all the money in the world would have no meaning". lol.

Find you.Love you.Marry you.

The movie plays so beautifully... The sequence, the setting, the story.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Dearest Cecilia, the story can resume. The one I had been planning on that evening walk. I can become again the man who once crossed the surrey park at dusk, in my best suit, swaggering on the promise of life. The man who, with the clarity of passion, made love to you in the library. The story can resume. I will return. Find you, love you, marry you and live without shame.

And on a some what related note:
Oh how I hate wars... So many lives, so many dreams, so many promises goes unfulfilled...and all because of the greed of a few.

Hollywood 'trash'

I (like many others in the world) think Megan Fox is outrageously gorgeous.....so gorgeous coz she oozes so much confidence.

But putting the obvious aside, I think Shia has definitely got potential. In Transformers 1, I loved his adorably-funny-awkward-geek-with-a-super-cool-secret character. In Transformers 2, he still is that adorably funny geek, but dudeeeee he macho-ed up ;) Heheh I like. I mean seriously.... look at the picture below....this guy has got Potential!

White Picket Fence

In movies, the happy lovely ladies (of Stepford. lol) always pine for houses with white picket fences.

Oh how the feminist side in me sneers. In contrast, I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to live in a spacious high rise penthouse with a 360 degree view of the city... Oooh La la Oui!

...But then I discovered a childhood picture of when we first moved into our house in 1993... A place far away from the city up on top of the hill overlooking stretches of greenery and towns. A place with queer lamps and white picket fence. The kind of place a young couple would dream to buy to start their happy little family.

The kind of place I too would like to buy someday perhaps (hehe PLUS the penthouse of course! )

Walk-a-thon

My dad bought vouchers for the family for a walk-for-charity event that happened this morning. Naturally, I dragged two of my friends in ;)

Whilst walking (more like whilst dillay-dallying),
AL: I almost didnt want to come today. But I came for you.
FZ: Ya me too....I was gonna sleep in but AL called me up and I'll feel bad if I didnt come.
Me: Haha well my whole family didnt wanna come and I told them I had to go coz I've dragged you guys into this. And so my whole family came anyway because of you guys!

Its so funny and sweet how we all didnt wanna go this morning but went anyway just because we didnt want to let each other down... Awwww lol.

Anyway its nice catching up over a walk...5km feels like a breeze! And despite our dillay-dallying and chit-chatting we still got medals!!! 3o ppl from each category qualifies for it (we were the last 3 to get medals in our category :p)

Oh chop chop let me upload the picture...Hehe pardon the proud-ness, but I've been like so lazy when it comes to exercising that this becomes quite an achievement. Hahaha loser I know.

-----updated 7th July 2009

I.H. called me up to say that the three of us appeared on T.V. for this! Oh what can I say... cameras loves us ;p But you wanna hear the funny bit? They ran a video of us and then straight after ran a video of the champion walker.....Pfffft What a joke =s

Indulgence

Some people have asked me if work is stressful because I seem to have lost weight. Work is not stressful but I've stopped caring about my weight. LIES!! haha we all know that deep down I always freak out when I put on weight. But what I'm trying to say is that I'm less obsessed with it now... I'm just enjoying the "love-thy-body phase"? Haha ok bullshit! I'm only writing this part about having 'lost' weight just so I dont feel so guilty about what is to follow...

...Coz I'm actually gonna blog about durian...feasting on Durian. oh yummy yummy durian :D :D Dudeee I dont know how much I ate....but I cant resist durian!!!! Weakness!! I was about to watch a play in a room full of reputable ppl and what did I eat just before the play? Swiss Roll Durian! Of course my aunts made me took plentiful of Hacks after....and oh my seat number was D24 (fyi thats like code name for durian)! And today I just had to stuff my face silly with plenty more of it. I love how durians are all like macho on the outside but soft in the inside. Ooooh I love the texture and how it sort of melts in your mouth... Oh it was so yummmmy :) :)

And to be fair, its not fully my fault that I love it so much. My mum was on a durian craving when she was pregnant with me and maybe she didnt know that it was heaty and probably not advisable coz she went ahead and indulged herself... So yeaaaa its in my system! Best excuse ever ;)
